The Donbass conflict, which began in 2014, escalated into a full-scale war after the Russian invasion in February 2022. Since then, Ukraine has become the scene of Europe’s latest war.
In the early days of the war, civilian fleeing took centre stage across Ukraine. Many civilians lost their lives in their attempt to escape. At the same time, thousands of Ukrainians began to resist the invasion. After a year of conflict, Ukraine has demonstrated its resilience in the fight against Russia. On the way, major battles have been fought in which Ukrainian soldiers have given their lives to defend their territory and civilians have tried to survive under constant shelling. Since the beginning of the Russian invasion, at least 10,000 civilians have died in this conflict.
The cruelty of war returns to Europe in the 21st century, bringing us closer to death, destruction and sadness.
